"From the time I entered to the time I departed, I experienced excellent service. Ms. Bernie was the first receptionist that I encountered she was very warm and friendly and she answered all my questions. Then I met the dental assistant Nena, also warm and friendly . She walked me through each process very carefully and put me at ease. Nena then introduce me to Ms. Bee, the Hygienist who again very warm and friendly. Ms. Bee walked me through her process carefully, again putting me at ease. Dr. Dan also very nice, gave me more details about what was needed and why. Dr. Dan, Ms. Bee and Nena was very gentle with needle. That speaks volumes coming from someone like me who up until now had a phobia about the Denver for many years. Alex was the last receptionist I met who was also very warm and friendly. No one was pushy about having anything done that may have been unnecessary. I love this place. They did "Make me smile". My new dental office, the Cypress location."- L.D. / Google / Feb 19, 2020
"Great experience, Alex at the front desk was very helpful, especially for the ones that come in without insurance nor enough money. Dr. Dan was great, fast. Best of all completely painless. Definitely reccomend."- E.H. / Google / Feb 19, 2020
Best Candidates for Traditional Metal Braces
Metal braces use a system of brackets and wires with elastic bands that guide your teeth into their proper places for better alignment. Our skilled dentists will be able to plan your treatment to deliver the results you want, including having a better bite and improved smile. With this treatment, our clinic uses stainless steel archwires, brackets, and bands to position the appliance on your teeth. Traditional braces are an excellent option for patients who simply want to straighten their teeth.
Adults, teenagers, and older children with permanent teeth can benefit from metal braces if they have concerns about:
- Teeth that are crooked or overcrowded
- Rotated, turned, or tipped teeth
- Gaps in your smile
- Teeth that protrude
- An open bite, overbite, underbite, or crossbite
What to Expect with Traditional Metal Braces
While it may seem complicated, placing metal braces is a simple process. We begin by taking impressions of your teeth and using advanced 3D cone beam scans and state-of-the-art digital x-rays of your jawbone and teeth so we can accurately plan your custom treatment. A practitioner then cleans the surface of your teeth to prepare the procedure. We then use a transparent or tooth-colored bonding material to adhere to every tooth, which will hold the brackets firmly in place. A metal wire is threaded through each bracket and attached with elastic bands. Before we place them, you can choose any color option for the bands. After this procedure has been completed, we will schedule a follow-up appointment at our Cypress, TX clinic. Once a month, our dentists will evaluate your tooth alignment as well as your archwires.
Traditional Metal Braces Follow-Up
After the initial placement of the braces and every time we change the wire, it's expected for some patients to experience a sore feeling in their mouth. Made Ya Smile typically suggests you eat soft foods during this time as well as take over-the-counter pain medications. The wires and brackets tend to create space for food particles and bacteria, so practice active oral care, including brushing your teeth every day after every meal. Our team can teach you how to brush using special tools around the metal wires. Stay up-to-date with your bi-annual cleanings so we can actively maintain your smile.
Treatment time does vary among patients depending on their unique situation but can last from 1 – 3 years. After a consultation and evaluation, we will offer an estimated amount of time for how long you will need to wear them. After the orthodontic treatment, our staff will remove the dental appliance and take impressions of your teeth to make your retainer, which should be worn as suggested to keep your new smile firmly in place.
It's common for wires, brackets, or elastic ties to become loose when wearing traditional wire braces. To reduce the chances of this happening, our practitioners strongly recommend patients avoid chewing or biting hard or sticky foods. If you ever experience an issue with your metal braces or have an orthodontic emergency, it's important to contact us right away. There are several methods of taking care of your issue before your in-office appointment in Cypress, TX:
Discomfort or soreness in the jaw, teeth, or gums: Patients may have some soreness after the braces have been placed as well as when we change the archwires. Discomfort can be managed easily with warm salt water rinses for the gums and over-the-counter medication for the teeth and jaw.
A wire that is loose: You may be able to push the loose wire into place using a simple pencil eraser, Q-tip, or pair of tweezers. Small wire cutters or fingernail clippers cleaned with rubbing alcohol can clip the wire behind the tooth. Patients can cover a portion of the wire with sugarless gum or orthodontic wax.
A band or bracket has become loose: If either is still attached to the wire, try to leave it until you can get an appointment at our office. Sharp, irritating areas can be covered with sugarless gum or orthodontic wax.
An appliance has become loose: Appliances that become loose should be reattached as soon as you can. Until you can schedule a visit to our clinic, stabilize the appliance with orthodontic wax.
A sharp wire that is poking your mouth: Wires that poke your lips, cheeks, gums, or tongue can be covered with sugarless gum or orthodontic wax. Patients may use fingernail clippers or simple wire cutters disinfected with rubbing alcohol to cut the wire.
